Role of Parent Teacher Council (PTC) in Boys Public Schools in the Context of roles, Issues, Challenges and Conflicts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Abstract

The paper examined the role of the Parent Teacher Council (PTC) in schools. Teachers alone were unable to provide a satisfactory brought up to students. Parental contribution in schools could enhance scholastic and social gains of students. Parent Teacher Council in schools encourages and supports the schools at grass root level. At present it has turned into a perceived marvel. Their involvement and active support in teaching and learning is critical to sustain educational quality. Throughout the world parental involvement in educational institutions was urged due to their positive role. Government of Pakistan and provincial Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Pakistan) established similar community participatory bodies in public sector schools to enhance qualitative and quantitative aspects of public sector schools. The population of the study all the districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and their boys’ public schools. Two districts were selected as sample districts. The random sampling technique is used for the selection of the respondents. The sample of the study consisted of 250 respondents. The validity and reliability of the sample data were assessed. The study's objective is to determine the function of the parent-teacher council in resolving issues, challenges, and conflicts. Percentage scores were used in answering the research questions. The findings of the study revealed that in the perceptions of principals, PTC contributed to school to a very small extent. Based on the findings, it was recommended that the PTC and school principals should make concerted efforts to improve and sustain the contributions of the PTC in raising school’s standards. The PTC communicates with society and school, to enhance the enrolment and reduce the dropout from schools.
