IMPACT OF SOCIAL MEDIA ENGAGEMENT ON EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AND MARITAL SATISFACTION AMONG MARRIED FEMALES

The present study aims to investigate the impact of social media engagement on emotional intelligence and marital satisfaction among married females. This research was quantitative correlation survey design and a sample of current study was 250 married females selected from Karachi through purposive convenient sampling. Participants completed the couple satisfaction index scale (CSI-16), social media engagement questionnaire (SMEQ), and Wong and Law emotional intelligence scale (WLEIS). Data were analyzed in SPSS-23 by running correlation and regression tests. The findings showed a weak negative correlation between social media and emotional intelligence (r= - 0.29,p<.05) weak positive correlation between social media and marital satisfaction (r=0.078, p >.05) and moderate correlation between emotional intelligence and marital satisfaction (r=0.4,p<.05) among married females. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that social media has an impact on marital satisfaction but relationship is not strong also excessive social media usage leads to lower emotional intelligence but relationship is weak.
